About JPO
Goodwill Alliance with Suginami City
Aiming at “Town Development based on Music”`Progress of Suginami City and JPO
concertTokyo’s Suginami City which pursues cultural town development and JPO entered a goodwill alliance in July 1994 aiming at mutual cooperation in the promotion of rich interchange between residents and regional culture through music.
In the west, many municipals have bases for artistic activities such as concert halls and theaters as well as high artistic quality orchestras and theater groups belonging to theaters to carry out community-based cultural and artistic activities. On the other hand, in Japan, there are currently very few halls with their own orchestras or groups.
Since the launch of the alliance, Suginami City has continued to provide their hall to JPO as a practice venue, and JPO has relocated their office to Suginami City to become a community-based orchestra in name and reality, and has carried out various musical activities together with the government and residents of the city. Efforts are enhancing every year, and the harmony of warm interchange between Suginami City residents and JPO has spread extensively, drawing widespread interests.

Towards Further Progress`Renewal and Reopening of Suginami Kokaido and 50th Anniversary of JPO
The Suginami Kokaido which first opened in 1961 reopened after renewal in June 2006, which marks the 50th anniversary of JPO. Aiming at further progress in the franchise of the Suginami Kokaido, JPO plans to propose new cultural themes to the world together with residents from the Hall, based on the achievements fostered through its activities and in the alliance with Suginami City. In 2006 when the efforts enhanced over the past ten or more years between Suginami City and JPO encounters the new Suginami Kokaido, a new cultural base will be born supported by experience yourself and participation type programs.
